    Isms and Schizms

Baby Journal Crazy Kai is a ton of fun to watch. He's only 3 days old, but already he's developing the most adorable little "isms". He loves to open his eyes really wide and look around, but when he first wakes up he only opens one eye and peeks out for a while. We might have to call him "Popeye". ;) Most of the time though, he just doesn't want to close his eyes. He's such a curious Kai.

One of Monica's favorite isms is the "chickenhead"! When I'm burping him over my shoulder, he pecks around with his mouth open like he's still looking to eat. It's hilarious the way he searches all over. He'll start out in the middle and peck as far as he can reach to the right, and then come back and peck all the way to the left.

A close cousin to the "chickenhead" is the "turtle". When you take the chickenhead and add his unquenchable curiousity, you get the "turtle". He picks his head up really high and extends his neck like a turtle as he looks around. We're impressed by how strong he is already! (I'm sure all parents say that;)

Last but not least is the "Incredible Hulk". We try to swaddle him because all the books, nurses, and magazines say babies love to be swaddled, but it doesn't take long before this little guy busts out of it with his "hulk" impersonation.

    The Cuteness Factor

There are so many things I want to say, write about, and record as we study and learn about our little guy but when I sat down to write an update, the thing that kept coming to mind was how incredibly cute this guy is! Every time I see his little body parts or hear his little squeeks, I melt.

So... I couldn't help it. The next update is a tribute to cuteness. I put together a small photo album in our gallery that is all close ups of his cuteness.

WARNING: the cuteness factor may be overwhelming. Proceed with caution!

Baby News Extra!! Extra!! We'd like to introduce to you, baby Kai Benjamin Rodriguez! God has blessed us with a beautiful, healthy baby boy and we are beside ourselves with joy and greatfulness.

He was born on June 19, 2006 at 3:00am, barely missing Father's Day, but I'm celebrating anyways! The picture here is from the nursery right after delivery, but as I write this only a day later he's already begun to change and develop. As you can see, he's got Momma's hair. It's a light brown with red and blonde speckled all over. His eyes are still dark, but today you can see a lot more blue in them. It looks like he got lucky and is going to be cute like his mom! I promise we'll get more pictures up soon, but we've been so consumed with him (and exhausted) that it's been tough getting a free moment to step away. (Besides, we didn't have a computer in the hospital :)

He's a big boy at 8lbs 11 oz. and 20.5 inches. Poor Monica had a long, difficult labor; especially since Kai was so "big" and she's "little'. In the end, there was just no way he was coming out naturally, so Momma's been recovering after surgery. In a strange, selfish kind of way, it's been good for me that Monica's mobility is limited because I get to spend a lot of time holding and caring for him. So far I've changed every poopy diaper except for one, and that's because the nurse made Monica do it as part of her rehab. Believe me, it's been a big job. This little guy is a ravenous eater, and he's a master pooper! The only department he's not an expert in yet is sleeping. It's like he's afraid he's going to miss all the action if he sleeps. He doesn't even like closing his eyes.

I better run; there's lots to do! We'll try to get pictures up ASAP!

UPDATE: The first set of pictures are here. More to come soon!

    Finally on Maternity Leave

Baby News Hey there everyone! I'm finally on Maternity Leave and have been enjoying sleeping in and not being on my feet all day. Sol took yesterday off, and we spent our time organizing and cleaning our apartment. It was a very productive time. :)

Last Saturday I went up to Fresno for a Baby Shower. Many people from out of town were able to make it. My mom and sister came from Paradise, and my friends Bethany, from Nevada, and Hillary, from Fairfield, came, too! Susan, Oralia and Martha truly blessed me with this shower! Thank you so much!

    Love you all,
    Monica

Wow! Wow! Wow! Sol and I had debated going in for 4D ultrasound pictures and had decided against it! However, on Monday, at our ultrasound appointment, we were surprised and unexpectedly blessed to see our little baby boy's facial features! It was so amazing! The pictures don't really do it justice, even though they are really awesome! On the monitor we were able to see him moving around. It's amazing that we could see him, and he is still inside! Wow! Check out the pictures in the image gallery.

I am so HUGE!!! I thought I was big at six months, now at eight months it seems like I've doubled in size. I still have two more months to go!

The baby is moving all the time now. Sometimes he really surprises me with a huge movement while I'm teaching! It's really alarming and fun! When the kids see my belly moving, they get so excited! I only have three more weeks of teaching and am looking forward to resting and getting everything ready for the baby!

Only seven weeks to go. The countdown has begun! :)

General News I have been able to feel the baby moving for a while now, but was sad that Sol could never feel it. Well, yesterday he felt the baby move for the first time! It was as if overnight the kicks became stronger. I was so excited to have him feel the baby moving. It was a fun moment! :) Like clockwork, the baby gets really active around 6:00 pm and 10:30 pm. I guess the late night is getting us/me ready for when he comes! Only four months to go!

Baby News Yes, it's true! It's a boy! It was plain for all to see! The ultrasound was so amazing - seeing our little guy moving and all his little parts all there! His arms, legs, fingers, toes, spine, heart beating, lips, nose, eyes and chin were all visible! It was awesome! There are plenty of pictures to see. The most important one (showing the gender) wasn't printed. We both saw that it is a boy! I'm sad that they didn't print the picture, but our doctor said that he would do an ultrasound at our next appointment and print a picture for us! :) Yea! :) We have to have the proof and blackmail for when he's older! Hee, Hee, Hee!
